Desolation
- Horror short
- In pre-production
An original psychological-horror short, written and directed by me. A man inherits his brother’s house after a fatal accident his own neglect caused.
Notes
An ordinary middle-aged man inherits his brother’s house after a fatal accident caused by his own neglect. Guilt and isolation start to bend what he sees. As it goes on the colour drifts towards oversaturated and unreal, and the escape at the end is really his death.
The motifs are small and domestic: a repair he kept putting off, electricity and a light bulb, and a silent double who never moves and stares straight into the lens. The frames lean on heavy negative space. Whenever the postman appears, the colour snaps back to normal.
Sound is designed into the treatment. The whole thing fits in a single flat with two actors; the double is done with a locked-off camera and split screen.
It hasn’t been shot yet.
